Avatar: Fire and Ash is the highly anticipated third film in James Cameron’s “Avatar” saga. “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is officially scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2025. Trailers have been released in multiple languages.
The official trailer first premiered exclusively in theaters, alongside the screening of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” which was released in theaters on July 25, 2025. After the leak online, the makers officially released the trailer online, on YouTube, on July 28.
The trailer introduces a new Na’vi tribe: the “Ash People” (Mangkwan clan), a fire-powered, aggressive Na’vi tribe led by Varang (Oona Chaplin), who reject the Ewa. The conflict escalates into a Na’vi vs. Na’vi war, where the Sully family (Jack, Neytiri, and the children) face this new threat.
Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang), in his Na’vi reunion, has allied himself with the Ash People, creating a dangerous new enemy. Sully explores the family’s grief over Neteyam’s death and Neytiri’s rage, suggesting high emotional stakes and moral complications.
Showcases the fascinating volcanic landscape inhabited by the Ash People and also introduces the peaceful “Wind Traders” tribe.
Continuing James Cameron’s legacy of groundbreaking CGI and immersive world-building, it promises an even more intense, complex, and visually spectacular continuation of the Avatar story.
Who is Varang, the new enemy?
The third installment of the franchise introduces us to a new enemy, Varang, played by Game of Thrones actor Oona Chaplin. The makers of ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ shared the first-look poster of Varang a few weeks ago. Varang is the head of the Mangkwan clan, who live in an area near an active volcano. Looking similar to the Na’vi, they can be identified by the presence of a red color. Varang is revealed in the trailer for ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ as a leader wearing a spiky red-and-black headdress.
Cast:
Returning cast includes Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, and Sigourney Weaver as Kiri. Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch (recombinant), Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, Kate Winslet as Ronal, Britain Dalton as Lo’ak, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss as Tuktirey (“Tuk”), Jack Champion as Miles “Spider” Socorro, Bailey Bass as Tsireya.
New additions to the cast include Oona Chaplin as Varang, leader of the Ash People, David Thewlis, and Michelle Yeoh.
The film’s screenplay was co-written by James Cameron, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver, with contributions from Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. Fire and Ash and The Way of Water were originally conceived as the same film, but Cameron separated them due to their larger story.
Directed by legendary filmmaker James Cameron, “Avatar: Fire and Ashes” is the third installment in the franchise, following the blockbusters Avatar (2009) and “Avatar: The Way of Water” (2022). After that, “Avatar 4” is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2029, and “Avatar 5” on December 19, with the final installment scheduled for 2031.
