ZEE5’s new show Bakaiti is about a middle-class family living in Ghaziabad. The story follows the Kataria family, who are dealing with the usual ups and downs of life. The daughter, Naina, is 21 and focused on her future, but things get messy when her younger brother Bharat moves in with her. He’s fun-loving and obsessed with cricket, which leads to daily fights between the two. Their parents, Sanjay and Sushma, try to keep the peace while dealing with money problems and their own quiet sadness.
As the family struggles with their personal issues, the show brings out the small but real moments that most Indian households will find familiar. There’s tension between siblings, arguments between the adults, and plenty of love hidden beneath it all. What makes it special is that it doesn’t rely on over-the-top drama. Instead, it focuses on real conversations, everyday chaos, and the emotional distance that can exist even in close families.
The director Ameet Guptha says the show was inspired by normal family conversations—like the ones we all have at the dinner table or on the terrace. He didn’t want to make something flashy. Instead, he wanted to capture the small things that actually matter in a family. The show uses natural camera work and simple storytelling to keep it honest and relatable. It’s about showing how families really talk, argue, and stay together.
Actors Sheeba Chaddha and Rajesh Tailang play the parents. They both said the story reminded them of their own experiences and the everyday love that keeps families going. Rajesh Tailang also spoke about how shows like Bakaiti wouldn’t have been possible without OTT platforms. He explained that streaming gave chances to actors, writers, and others behind the scenes who were earlier ignored in big movie setups.
Rajesh has worked in theatre and popular OTT shows like Mirzapur and Delhi Crime. He shared how he took a break from acting when the roles got repetitive and only came back when he found interesting characters again. Bakaiti marks his return to the screen in a role that feels meaningful and close to home. The show premieres on ZEE5 on 1 August 2025, and promises a story many families will connect with.
