Bengali web series ‘Nishir Daak’ is an upcoming supernatural horror thriller that will be aired exclusively on Hoichoi. The atmosphere is tense before Bhoot Chaturdashi. The web series is directed by Joydeep Mukherjee. The trailer of the series was recently released. It lasts for about one and a half minutes and has an atmosphere of fear, terror, and mystery. The story of the series progresses along the path of a village. The cursed story of the terrifying past is hidden in every corner of the village. This series will be released on October 17th on Hoichoi.
‘Nishir Daak’ Trailer: The trailer begins with the words: “In that village, there is someone; you will not respond to her call.” This alludes to the folk tale of Nishir Daak, where a supernatural force called Nishi calls people by name at night, and when they look back, they die. The story revolves around the village of Sonamukhi, where playing any kind of musical instrument is prohibited. The people of this village believe that “Singing a song or Nishi calls you.”
‘Nishir Daak’ Story Line: The series is set in the quiet, remote village of Sonamukhi. The story follows a group of six PhD students who come to the village on a research trip. Their goal is to find out the history of a forgotten legendary classical singer, Nishigandha Bhaduri, who was once admired by Rabindranath Tagore.
However, their academic pursuit quickly turns to horror as they uncover dark secrets and folklore surrounding the village and a mansion where they live. They discover a curse and a spirit of revenge that is awakened, especially when the sound of music is heard. The series blurs the line between melody and threat, suggesting that in this village, music does not heal—it haunts; the sound of music is capable of summoning death. Folktales of mysterious deaths from the past begin to connect with present-day horrors, including a murder among the students.
Investigation: Tensions rise as a government investigation begins after a murder. A law enforcement officer is shown at the scene, confused about the nature of the case, and asks, “A man has been murdered here. What shall I write in the report, Nishi?” The investigation seems to be hampered by incompetence or ignorance, with one character expressing frustration by calling those involved “all fools.”
The trailer ends with the sound of banned music and the growing danger as the ancient call is heard loudly.
The series stars a host of familiar faces from Tollywood. Surangana Bandyopadhyay, who is likely playing the role of Nishigandha and is likely to be seen in flashbacks, wears a distant, brooding look that adds a remarkable mystery and aura to her character. Dressed in a Banarasi saree and heavy gold jewelry, she recreates the regal, ancient charm associated with that era. In another image, Surangana is seen singing, dressed simply as a married Bengali woman, playing the tanpura, perhaps in a contemporary reincarnation of an earlier character. Also playing important roles are Sreeja Dutta, Rajdeep Gupta, Somak Ghosh, Rik Chatterjee, Sweta Mishra, Arunava Dey, Raunak Bhowmick, Mukul Kumar Jana, Satyam Bhattacharya, Mainak Banerjee, Anubhav Kanjilal, and Arnab Banerjee to Chhandak Choudhury. The series ‘Nishir Daak’ is a mix of folklore and horror.
‘Nishir Daak’, a Bengali web series, will premiere on Hoichoi on 17th October 2025.
