Chennai Police arrested 11 people on Saturday night for selling illegal tickets near the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. 34 tickets were also seized. The arrested are: Aravindh (24) of Pattabiram, Rupesh (24) of Alanur, Vishnu (19) of Avadi, Sethu Roshan (20) of Triplicane, Chandran (52) of Triplicane, Sriram (25) of Ashok Nagar, Aravind (20) of Gummidipoondi, Solomon (19) of Thiruvottiyur, Vineeth (28) of Kerala, Karthik (23) of Chepauk and Manikandan (26) of Kottur. They were seen selling tickets near Bells Road, Wallajah Road, Chepauk Railway Station, Victoria Hostel Road and Pattabiram Gate.
The arrests were made during the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Delhi Capitals (DC) match. Earlier, 25 people were arrested for selling black tickets during the match between CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.
A special team in white is deployed around the stadium on match days to monitor and stop the illegal sale of tickets. There will be strict vigilance in the stadium during the match, officials said.
According to police sources, the accused bought the tickets through the official platform and resold them at three times the original price. Some tickets were reportedly sold for as much as Rs 25,000. CSK played its third home match on Saturday where they lost to DC by 25 runs.
