Manoj Kumar Death: Renowned Bollywood actor and film director Manoj Kumar has passed away from this world. He died at the age of 87 at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. Not much information is yet available about the actor’s cause of death. He was believed to be suffering from old age.

Ashoke Pandit pays tribute to Manoj Kumar

On the death of Indian actor and film director Manoj Kumar, film director Ashoke Pandit said, “… the great Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner, our inspiration and the ‘Lion’ of the Indian film industry Manoj Kumar ji is no more with us… It is a huge loss to the industry and the entire industry will miss him…”

Who was Manoj Kumar?
Manoj Kumar was born on July 24, 1937, in a Punjabi Hindu Brahmin family in Abbottabad, North-Western Provinces of British India (now known as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan). The actor’s real name was Harikrishna Giri Goswami. When he was 10 years old, his family moved from Jandiala Sher Khan to Delhi due to the partition.

Manoj Kumar started his acting career with the film ‘Fashion’ in 1957. After this, his film ‘Kanch Ki Gudiya’ was released in 1960. He played the lead actor in this film, which was successful. Manoj Kumar “Upakar” (1967), Manoj Kumar’s name was ‘Bharat Kumar’ in most of the films and that’s why he became famous as ‘Bharat Kumar’ to his fans.

He was a veteran actor in Hindi cinema. He was known for acting in and directing films with patriotic themes, including “Shaheed” (1965), “Purab Aur Paschim” (1970), and “Roti Kapda Aur Makaan” (1974). He also gave remarkable films like “Patthar Ke Sanam”, “Sanyasi” and “Kranti”.

Manoj Kumar worked in films like ‘Sahara’ (1958), ‘Chand’ (1959) and ‘Honeymoon’ (1960) and then he got ‘Kaanch Ki Gudiya’ (1961) where he played the lead role for the first time. This was followed by ‘Piya Milan Ki Aas’ (1961), ‘Suhag Sindoor’ (1961), ‘Reshmi Rumal’ (1961).

Awards and Honours
Manoj Kumar was awarded the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in the field of cinema, by the Government of India, in 2015.
