Actor Varun Dhawan’s upcoming romantic comedy ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ is set to hit the theaters on October 2nd, the same day as Rishab Shetty’s much-awaited ‘Kantara: Chapter 1.’ With both the films set to release at the box office on the same day, fans were curious to see if Varun was feeling the pressure.
Speaking to India Today, Varun highlighted the much-talked-about clash. “Honestly, while deciding the release date, Dharma Productions, who have been making films for so many years, have chosen October 2. It is a huge date because it is both Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti. So overall, the business on this day will be much higher than what is expected on a normal Friday. There is a chance of doing a business of around Rs 70 crore in Hindi alone,” the actor said.
Respect for Kantara, confidence in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari
The actor also admitted that “Kantara: Chapter 1” is a ‘big’ film and liked the first part of it a lot. However, he mentioned that ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ is ‘different’ and there is enough space for all kinds of films here.
Varun reacts to the clash with Kantara Chapter 1
Recently during a #Varunsays session on X (formerly Twitter), a fan asked him directly, “Kantara se dar nahi lag raha (Aren’t you afraid of Kantara)?”
Varun replied, “Release date during production. Par hum boss apne movie pe mehnat kar rahe hai aur logo ko hasane ki koshish. I hope on October 2, everyone is smiling, laughing, and celebrating (the production team decides the release date). We are just focusing on working hard on our film and trying to make people laugh.”
Box Office Clash: Sunny Sankari Ki Tulsi Kumari vs Kantara: Chapter 1
Notably, Kantara: Chapter 1 (Hindi) is currently at the top in terms of advance bookings. Speaking of Sunny Sankari Ki Tulsi Kumari, directed by Shashank Khaitan, Sunny Sankari Ki Tulsi Kumari follows Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s characters, Sunny and Tulsi, as they try to win back their ex-partners, played by Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf. The situation sets the stage for a comedic journey where Sunny and Tulsi will pretend to be a couple to make their ex-lovers jealous. The film also stars Maniesh Paul and Akshay Oberoi. Produced by Dharma Productions and Mentor Dispel Entertainment, the film is set to release on Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, 2025.
On the other hand, “Kantara: Chapter 1,” directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, is a prequel to the 2022 hit “Kantara.” It dives deep into the rich folklore and mythology of the original film and stars Gulshan Devaiah, Rukmini Vasanth, and Jayaram in the lead roles.
On the opening day, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari will face off against Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1, making for an interesting clash at the box office.
