Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 will premiere on OTT on October 31st. The film’s streaming partner, Prime Video, has officially announced the streaming date on their social media handles. More than 3 weeks after its release, the blockbuster film, which has been a huge hit at the box office, will now be available for OTT viewers.

Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 will be released globally on Prime Video in Kannada, with dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. The Hindi version will not be released now following the guidelines of the Multiplex Association of India. The Hindi release date has been kept under wraps. Amazon Prime Video has reportedly bought the post-theatrical streaming rights for Rs 125 crore.

The blockbuster film, written, directed, and starring Rishab Shetty, also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram. The film is produced by KGF fame Hombale Films. Serving as a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara—A Legend, the film expands the world of cinema, which is emotionally intimate and grand in scale. The film’s music is composed by B. Ajaneesh Loknath.
Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 Plot
According to Prime Video, Set in pre-colonial Karnataka during the reign of the Kadambas of Banavasi, Kantara: Chapter 1 traces the origins of the Panjurli Daiva legend. Which is the divine guardian whose spirit protects the sacred forests of Kantara. As greed and power threaten to disrupt the natural balance, divine forces awaken to restore order.
The narrative unfolds through the interconnected fates of kings, tribes, and gods, with Panjurli Daiva symbolizing protection and Guliga Daiva representing steadfast justice. The result is a powerful tale of faith, revenge, and survival. A prequel to the 2022 hit ‘Kantara,’ the story delves into the origins of the Daiva Kola, or Buta Kola, tradition, a spiritual practice deeply rooted in the Tulu culture of coastal Karnataka. Set in pre-colonial India, the film follows a tribal leader named Berme (played by Rishab Shetty), who stands up to oppressive elites to protect the dignity and faith of his people.
Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 Budget and Collections
“Kantara: Chapter 1” is officially the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, having grossed over Rs 800 crore worldwide. According to Hombal Films, the film has grossed Rs 809 crore worldwide, surpassing Chhava’s lifetime gross of Rs 807 crore.
However, trade tracker Sacnilk reported a slightly lower revenue of around Rs 775 crore, indicating a slight discrepancy in the reported numbers. However, both statistics make Kantara’s Chapter 1 a record-breaking success.
In its first two weeks, the film grossed Rs 717 crore worldwide, adding another Rs 92 crore in the third week. In India, it grossed Rs 563.50 crore, demonstrating exceptional audience retention even three weeks after its release.

It received an equally strong response overseas, collecting nearly $13 million, proving that the film’s appeal extends far beyond Indian shores. To further broaden its global presence, an English-language version of the film is expected to be released later this month.
