Kalyani Priyadarshan‘s fantasy-action blockbuster film ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’ is all set to premiere digitally on JioHotstar on October 31. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, currently the highest-grossing Malayalam film, is a fantasy epic based on local mythology and folklore. Kalyani Priyadarshan stars in the title role, supported by Naslen and Sandy in important roles. While Tovino Thomas and Dulquer Salmaan play cameo roles, Mammootty also makes his presence felt through his voice.
After becoming the highest-grossing film in Kerala, in record-breaking theaters, the film will be available in multiple languages. Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra will be released in seven Indian languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi, so that audiences from different regions can enjoy it.
Makers announce OTT release date and platform
After a record-breaking theatrical run, ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’ is now all set to reach a wider audience through a digital release. The makers have officially announced that the film will start streaming on JioHotstar from October 31.
The streaming platform has also released another poster celebrating the success of the film, which confirms that it has become the highest-grossing film in Kerala history, crossing Rs 300 crore worldwide. Fans in India and abroad will soon be able to enjoy this spectacle from the comfort of their homes.
Lokah marks the debut of the first female superhero in Malayalam cinema, starring Kalyani (Chandra), a powerful, mythological-inspired heroine navigating a modern world steeped in folklore and fantasy elements. Lokah is directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films.
Kalyani Priyadarshan as Chandra, a mysterious young woman who arrives in Karnataka and gets involved in an organ trafficking network. The film combines mythology with a modern-day backdrop, delving into cosmic power and human resilience. The story also stars Naslen, Sandy Master, Arun Kurian, Chandu Salimkumar, Nishanth Sagar, Raghunath Paleri, Vijayaraghavan, Nithya Shri, and Sarath Sabha.
The film, which was released in theaters on 28 August, received rave reviews and performed exceptionally well at the box office. The film soon became a talking point in the country’s film circles, with the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions also achieving good success at the box office. Many critics praised the film for Nimish Ravi’s extraordinary cinematography, high-quality graphics, the actors’ performances, and the film’s expansive world-building, which they said set a new benchmark for Indian filmmaking in this genre.
Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is the first installment of a planned five-part franchise. The second installment of the franchise is in the making. Announced in September 2025, the sequel continues the emerging cinematic universe started by the original character. Tovino Thomas will be seen in the lead role in the second part. Recently, the makers shared the teaser of the second part of ‘Lokah.’ The same core technical team is also likely to be retained, including co-writer and playwright Santhy Balachandran, cinematographer Nimish Ravi, music director Jakes Bejoy, editor Chaman Chakko, production designer Banglan, and stunt choreographer Yannick Ben.
