Television actor Ashish Kapoor has been arrested by Delhi Police after a woman accused him of raping her during a house party in the capital last month. The woman said the incident took place inside a bathroom at the gathering in the second week of August. An FIR was registered on August 11, and police began tracking Kapoor, who was later arrested in Pune after moving between several locations.
According to investigators, the woman first named Kapoor along with his friend, the friend’s wife, and two unknown men in her initial complaint. Later, she changed her statement and accused only Kapoor of rape. She also claimed that the assault was recorded on video, but police have not found any such footage so far. Officials said it was actually the friend’s wife who made the PCR call that first alerted authorities about the case.
Police sources added that Kapoor initially slipped away when he was traced to Goa, but he was finally found staying with a friend in Pune. They said legal opinion is being taken and the investigation is continuing from all possible angles. At this stage, no formal charges have been filed against the other people mentioned in the first complaint.
The case has quickly drawn public attention because Kapoor is a well-known television face. Over the past decade, he has acted in several serials, including Saraswatichandra, Dekha Ek Khwaab, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, and Molkki.
