Sardar 2 is an upcoming Tamil-language spy action thriller film. It is the sequel to the 2022 film Sardar.
The film continues the story of the first Sardar film, with Karthi’s character, a cop, uncovering his father’s secret and a larger conspiracy. The sequel’s prologue teaser hints at a new mission for Karthi’s character, this time against a villain named ‘Black Dagger,’ played by S. J. Suryah. The film also stars Malavika Mohanan, Rajisha Vijayan and Ashika Ranganath. Sardar 2 is directed by P. S. Mithran.
Principal photography of Sardar 2 began in July 2024 and ended in June 2025. The film was shot in various locations, including Chennai and other international locations.
Sardar 2, initially scheduled to release on Diwali this year, is now scheduled to release in December 2025. The decision has reportedly been taken to avoid a clash with Suriya’s upcoming movie, which was scheduled to premiere on Diwali. The makers have not yet announced the plot details and release date of the film. The film will be released in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Sardar 2 Teaser: The teaser of Karthi-starrer ‘Sardar 2’ was released on Eid 2025. The clip features SJ Suryah as the main antagonist, who confronts Indian spy Sardar, played by Karthi.
The 177-second teaser begins with an aerial shot of a deserted snow-covered monastery in Japan. Soon, we see soldiers approaching the area and attempting to break down the building’s doors. As their efforts progress, the teaser transitions to a scene inside the monastery, where a group of armed men are being pulled aside by an elderly man. With sharp and well-planned moves, he advances and strikes down his opponents.
As for the technical team, ‘Sardar 2’ has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by George C. Williams, editing by Vijay Velukutty, and stunts by Dhilip Subbarayan. The film is produced by S. Lakshman Kumar under the banner of Prince Pictures and co-produced by Venkatesh.
In the first look, Karthi is seen with a fierce look and holding a katana (a Japanese sword used by samurai). ‘Sardar 2’ is currently in the final stages of shooting. Interestingly, the actors are also dubbing the film simultaneously during the filming. The film is said to be the highest-budgeted film made by Karthi to date.
After the release of ‘Sardar,’ it was so critically and commercially acclaimed that Prince Pictures’ producer Lakshman gifted a Toyota Fortuner to director PS Mithran for the film’s phenomenal success. Apart from being a big commercial entertainer, ‘Sardaar’ gave a very important message to the society. Its story emphasizes the importance of water and its conservation.
‘Sardar’ had an impressive cast, including Bollywood actor Chunky Pandey. It also marked the return of well-known actress Laila to the big screen. There were also actresses like Raashii Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan.
In the first part, Karthi played the dual role of a ‘RAW’ agent and his son, a policeman, who wanted to atone for the damage to his father’s reputation, while in the second part, the son will be shown going to Cambodia as a spy for the Indian government.
The making of ‘Sardar 2’ also faced several challenges. A tragic accident occurred, where stuntman Elumalai lost his life after falling from a height of 20 feet. This incident caught the attention of the entire industry and was a heartbreaking moment for the entire team. Despite these setbacks, the film has been completed and is now in post-production.
After ‘Sardar 2,’ Karthi will soon start working on Kaithi 2. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film is one of the most anticipated projects in Tamil cinema. The first film, Kaithi, launched the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), making its sequel highly awaited among the fans.
Apart from Sardar 2, Karthi has another much-awaited film, ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar,’ an action-comedy directed by Nalan Kumarasamy. Starring Krithi Shetty, Sathyaraj, and Anandaraj, the film was initially scheduled to release in January but is getting delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. Fans are eagerly waiting for updates on both the films as Karthi continues to take up exciting and varied projects.
On the other hand, Malavika’s growing pan-India appeal is evident in her upcoming lineup, including ‘The Raja Saab’ in Telugu with Prabhas.
