Chhaava, based on the life of Maratha emperor and Shivaji Maharaj’s son, generated interest with its intriguing poster and promise of a gripping story. Produced by Maddock Films’ Dinesh Bhijan and directed by Laxman Utekar, the film stars Vicky Kaushal as Sambhaji Maharaj, Rashmika Chhatrapati as Maharani Yesubai, Sambhaji’s wife and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The film also stars Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, Neil Bhoopalam, Santosh Juvekar and Pradeep Ram Singh Rawat. The title is a reference to Sambhaji’s nickname, which means ‘lion cub’ in Marathi. Shivaji, who founded the Maratha king, was referred to as a lion. The music of the film Chhava, written by Rishi Virmani, was composed by A. R. Rahman.
