The Malayalam film Ronth, written and directed by Shahi Kabir, is now available to watch on JioHotstar. It started streaming on July 22 and can be watched in five different Indian languages—Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada. This makes it easier for people from different parts of India to enjoy the film, even if they don’t understand Malayalam.
Ronth tells the story of two police officers who are on night duty. The senior officer, Yohannan, is played by Dileesh Pothan, and the junior cop, Dinanath, is played by Roshan Mathew. The film shows how the two deal with different challenges during one night on patrol. It focuses on how the senior teaches his junior about the job, while also showing the little clashes and mutual respect between them.
The film is special because the director, Shahi Kabir, used to be a police officer himself. He said that he took inspiration from his real-life experiences while writing the story. Through the film, he wanted to show a more human and honest side of police life, not just action or crime, but also the emotional side of being on duty.
When it was released in theatres on June 13, Ronth received positive reviews from critics and viewers. At the box office, the movie earned ₹6.58 crore in India and ₹9.81 crore worldwide. Even though it didn’t cross the ₹10 crore mark to be called a big hit, it still made a profit because it was made on a budget of ₹5 crore.
In the end, Ronth became the 12th most profitable Malayalam film of 2025. It made more money than some other popular films that had bigger budgets. It may not have been a blockbuster, but it found success through strong storytelling, realistic characters, and now with its OTT release, it has a chance to reach an even wider audience.
