Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has become a landmark movie for Malayalam cinema. Directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan, the superhero story stars Kalyani Priyadarshan as Chandra, a young woman who discovers her cosmic powers. The film has been praised for its beautiful visuals, emotional depth, and powerful storytelling. Audiences have connected strongly with Chandra’s journey, and the movie has continued to do well in theatres weeks after its release.
At the box office, Lokah has broken every record. According to reports, it has earned more than ₹300 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. It has crossed previous blockbusters like L2: Empuraan and Thudarum. What makes this even more special is that it’s a female-led film—something rare for a superhero story in India. Kalyani’s performance has been praised for being both strong and sensitive, setting a new example for leading roles in the industry.
The success of Lokah has also encouraged filmmakers to think bigger. It shows that Malayalam audiences are ready for high-budget, imaginative films that mix fantasy, action, and emotion. The movie’s music by Jakes Bejoy and its strong supporting cast—including Mammootty, Tovino Thomas, Naslen, and Sunny Wayne—have helped create a complete cinematic experience. Critics have called it a film that balances spectacle and soul.
Fans won’t have to wait long to watch it again. The makers have announced that Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra will start streaming on JioHotstar on October 20, 2025, right before Diwali. This will allow even more people to see what made the movie such a hit. A sequel, Lokah: Chapter 2, has already been confirmed, with Tovino Thomas playing the lead and Dulquer Salmaan joining the cast.
With this film, Malayalam cinema has entered a new era. Lokah has proven that stories led by women can achieve both critical and commercial success. It has opened doors for a new kind of filmmaking—one that is bold, emotional, and filled with imagination. Whatever happens next in the Lokah series, one thing is clear: Chandra’s story has already made history.
